Master Copy #2

This is another photoshop assignment to recreate a master copy. I don't feel as though this one was as successful as my last but I did enjoy experimenting with the background and distorting the figure.

For homework we had to recreate a masterwork using Photoshop. I recreated a Jenny Saville piece of a woman on the toilet. My pose is not exact because it's a self portrait and I couldn't take the picture myself. I wish it was more exact but I'm happy with it otherwise.

Comments on the "Creativity Strangled" video

Aside from fixing up an old photograph in photoshop, our homework for this week was to post our thoughts on the "Creativity Strangled" video.
The quote "For the love, not for the money" caught my attention. This makes me think about graphic design as an art form today. I almost feel like many artists are taking up graphic design because of the fact that you'll have a better chance of getting a solid job in today's world through that medium and what not. Considering we're starting to choose classes for next semester, I've been thinking about what classes I want to take but also about what I want to major in, which at the moment I have no idea. Since I've been thinking about a major I've also been thinking about my plans after college, which I had none... I asked around to try and see what kinds of jobs I can get after school with the different majors and what I found it is that you're pretty much not guaranteed any kind of steady job in any art form other than Graphic Design... I guess that was part of the challenge in entering art as a career... many people told me this but I really didn't want to believe it. ... However artists ARE needed everywhere for pretty much everything. But everyone need graphic designers. And this is where the quote comes in... Though some artists truly feel strongly about this way of making art I almost feel like a lot of artists are also using it just to Make the money... and its no longer about the Love for art. ... Computer art is growing on me but personally there is no way I could work with a computer all the time, my brain may explode. I almost feel like artists are abandoning the traditional ways of making art, that actual physical connection with a piece of art. Like what the man in the video was talking about in the beginning of the video about the telephone and how humans will evolve and loose their vocal choirs because of it... I feel that artists are loosing that real artistic touch, their creativity, to this relatively new way of creating "art"...

...Annnnyway back to more of what the video was about. Copyright laws and what not... I've never really understood what can and can not be used in art. The videos that where shown (Jesus Christ the Musical, a personal fav that I had seen many a-time before, ha) were more like fun youtube videos rather than art... even thought I know that's what they were...
In the video the man said something about images and sounds are not free for commercial use, but amateur use is okay. I think that makes sense... and I don't really see how that could every change anyway. What with the internet there's no way to silence all the individuals that make videos for the web... but once something is on the internet its open to everyone... but then that brings up the argument about if a company takes a video or something off the internet. the person who made the video will bitch about it being stolen for commercial use, but then the company could argue that what they took, if its a video like the Anime video where material used to make the video was not the creators in the first place which was Taken from the media, then the company is just doing the same thing in a way, i guess... I dont know. It's all really confusing... and hard to explain what I'm trying to say, blah.
